Updating your QR Code (booster doses)

If you received additional doses of vaccine (e.g., booster dose) since adding your COVID-19 vaccination record to NLVaxPass, they will not automatically display in NLVaxPass. You will need to delete your COVID-19 vaccination record from NLVaxPass and add a new one. For instructions on how to do this, please see page 11 of the NLVaxPass Quick Reference Guide ("Updating and Deleting a COVID-19 Vaccination Record").

If your current COVID-19 vaccination record indicates a 'Green Status' in NLVaxPass, the status will remain green with or without the COVID-19 booster at this time. Vaccination clinics may document your booster dose electronically or by using paper. To expedite the delivery of COVID-19 boosters, there has been an increase in the paper process, which may cause a delay in your booster displaying on your COVID-19 vaccination record.

'Green' Status in NLVaxPass

A COVID-19 vaccination 'Green' status indicates you are fully vaccinated or you have an approved medical exemption. A 'Red' status indicates you are not fully vaccinated or you do not have an approved medical exemption.

For more information on the criteria for 'Green' status, please see below.

Fully Vaccinated

Your vaccination record will display 'Green' (COVID-19 Vaccination Status met) when at least two weeks has passed since your final dose of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by the World Health Organization.

  • The Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD, Sinopharm, Sinovax, and Covaxin vaccines consist of two doses.
  • The Janssen vaccine consists of one dose.
  • If you received two doses of a Health Canada approved vaccine, your first and second dose do not need to be the same vaccine. If you received two doses of Sinopharm, Sinovax, or Covaxin, both doses must be the same vaccine in order for your vaccination record to display 'Green' (COVID-19 Vaccination Status met)

Your vaccination record will also display 'Green'  if you received one or two doses of a non-World Health Organization approved COVID-19 vaccine, followed by one dose of an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna), and at least two weeks has passed since the mRNA dose.

Note: if you meet the criteria listed, your vaccination record will display 'Green.' Your booster dose does not affect your 'Green' status.

Medical Exemptions

Individuals with approved medical exemptions and a valid MCP number can get a COVID-19 vaccination record QR code through NLVaxPass that will display 'Green' (COVID-19 Vaccination Status met). People who do not have a valid MCP cannot get a QR code at this time. Businesses and organizations will not be able to tell if you have a medical exemption.
